Since conducting dental research at Georgetown University on how to make crowns fit precisely, crown and bridge work has been a passion for Dr. Nobile. In fact, for more than 25 years he has been Director of Jersey Shore University Medical Center’s Section of Prosthetic Dentistry, which focuses specifically on crowns, bridges and dentures. We also offer the latest in new technology in our office, as described below.
Teeth that are badly broken down and aren’t strong enough to support a filling need a crown. A crown is basically a tooth-shaped cap that is placed over a tooth to restore it. Crowns are often used to protect a weak tooth, to fix a broken or defective tooth, to make a cosmetic improvement or to hold a bridge in place.
A bridge fixes a gap made by a missing tooth. It’s typically made up of a crown on either side of the gap, allowing a false tooth to be placed where the real tooth is missing. Another type of bridge is called a fixed bridge splint. This type is used to connect teeth that are weak due to bone loss, making the individual teeth stronger.
We are one of the few dental offices in the area to now offer a new optical dental scanner called the TRIOS® 3Shape Dental Scanner. This amazing technology allows us to provide more accurately fitting, color-matched crowns and bridges with just a quick scan and without taking traditional dental impressions. For our patients, this means no more gooey dental impressions that take seven minutes to set—just a quick scan to create the best-fitting and best-looking crown or bridge possible!
In addition, our office uses a lab with the latest capabilities in computer-controlled CNC technology – another reason you can rest assured that your crown or bridge will fit extremely well. This technology also enables Dr. Nobile to offer all-ceramic crowns and bridges. With this option, you will not see any black lines at the gum tissue.
